About Memecat

Memecat was developed by Jamie Pitts as a celebration of internet video memes and as a demonstration platform for his social software and semantic web ideas.

The need for something like Memecat was first recognized when Jamie could not find an easy way to keep track of the latest copycat YouTube and Google videos of a particular pattern. As the video sites grew in size (an understatement), the homebrew memes started taking the back seat to professional music videos, vlog entries, and documentaries.

After accidentally watching a vlog entry - an activity that he had for so long avoided, Jamie squared his shoulders and decided to take action and do his part in the global war on boredom.

This community is running on the following technologies:

Ruby on Rails
MySQL Database
Apache with FastCGI
There are many third-party libraries that I made use of. I will credit these here soon.

Special thanks to Kathy Chin and Eric Blue for ideas, content, and valuable feedback.
